Valentino Spring 2010 Haute Couture Show

Image
Valentino created their Spring collection with the intention to attract younger group of customers. The theme for Valentino's Spring 2010 Haute Couture Show was Garden of Eden in a modern world. Actually, it reminds me of the Avatar movie. The majority of the collection is composed of chiffon. See the rest of Valentino's Spring 2010 collection! Source

Classy Freddie Blassie vs. Rikidozan (+ interview)

From April, 1962 Classic Blassie as wrestler!

MY BREAKFAST WITH BLASSIE

Image
Original Title : My Breakfast With Blassie Year : 1983 Director : Linda Lautrec , Johnny Legend , Mark Shepard Writer : Linda Lautrec , Johnny Legend IMDb : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085979/ Genre : Comedy Synopsis: Comedian Andy Kaufman & professional wrestler Classy Freddie Blassie eat breakfast & discuss life. There you have it again. A parody of an apparently popular art-house film My Dinner With Andre which gives the audience a look at two men discussing their life over dinner, My Breakfast With Blassie has Andy Kaufman and wrestling legend "Classy" Freddie Blassie discussing various random subjects over their diner breakfast. In typical Kaufman fashion, this is an unusual, improvised bit that pushes against the edge of what the audience may be able to bear. Look no further than Kaufman going on stage in his standup and reading The Great Gatsby as his bit. The interactions between the two are interesting, but go on a bit too long for my tastes. I think this w

Kaufman on Letterman

Since the actual footage is not in the movie "I'm From Hollywood" here is the clip! Classic television. Here's a bonus clip of Kaufman's tirade without the bleeps. Yay dirty words!

A Butter Knife, a Wrench, and Bandages --- (Truly Grateful Series)

Image
Last weekend, the menfolk in my family went to the big auto show in Detroit leaving me at home and up to my own devices.  I had work that I wanted to get done at my mom's house, so I stayed behind.  I am still sorting through the things left in her house.  My brother and I each have only so much room for the items we want to keep.  Once the snow gets completely melted and the temperatures get high enough that we can stand outside without our faces freezing off, we will be having an auction to sell off what remains.  Personal things, like her clothes, won't be sold, of course. There is limited storage at the nursing home where my mother lives.  She shares one tiny closet with her roommate, and there is very little space for her clothes in it.  As a result, she still has quite a few clothes at her house that are in good condition and fit her but that there is simply no room for at the nursing home.  So I wanted to figure out a place to store her extra clothes at my house in case

Watching TV series: Merlin

Image
Watching TV series: Merlin . It's Sunday, Merlin 's on! By definition, anybody who adds to the huge Arthurian body of work (possibly the hugest of all), takes "liberties" with the myth, but that's not even an appropriate phrase, because there's only the tiniest piece of historic truth in the whole thing, anyway, whatever Glastonberry shopkeepers will tell you. There was some wartribe chief vaguely corresponding to this Arthur fellow centuries before the medieval period when his adventures are always set. I had to study Le Morte D'Arthur for the Agrégation, back in my long gone youth, and read just about every little piece of arthuriana I could lay my hands on. Before and after, I'd seen a zillion movies and a zillion TV products and read a zillion comic books dealing with Arthur and Merlin and the whole gang. But this new product does take more liberties, as it were. Unexpected ones, I mean. Notably when it comes to the relationships between the prot

Went to see Gainsbourg: Une Vie héroïque

Image
January 27, 2010. Went to see Gainsbourg: Une Vie héroïque (Joann Sfar, 2010). I'm a huge Gainsbourg fan (a fan of the whole Gainsbourg / Birkin family, really), so I waited and waited, couldn't make up my mind to go see it. With biopics you never know. They can be so painful for diehard fans. If only because the casting is so often dreadfully misguided. My verdict is: if you manage as I did to see that this is actually an inspired poetic tribute, rather than a filmed biography with a tremendous sountrack, then you can thoroughly enjoy it. Some bits are truly original. Acting by Eric Elmosnino excellent. Plus I went thinking I was going to hate Laetitia Casta as Bardot, bracing myself, and found her amazingly good.

Went to see Mr. Nobody

Image
January 18, 2010. Went to see Mr. Nobody (Jaco van Dormael, 2009). With the amazing-eyed Jared Leto, who I've always said is a good actor. Very interesting film. Totally Philip K. Dick in many ways, but not only. Philosophical without being pretentious. Highbrow, I guess. Very well-filmed too.

A long goodbye.

I don't really write here anymore. I suppose I don't know what to write about. I wish I didn't have to compartmentalize my life and my blogs. I think I'm going to leave this one be for a while. Come visit me at this address here to read about my daily life adventures with being a teacher and having mental health issues. This blog has served its purpose. I will come back to it when I need to. So don't unsubscribe it from your reader or anything. If you come read, read my other blog. I'm on my way to updating it right now.

I'M FROM HOLLYWOOD

Image
Original Title : I'm From Hollywood Year : 1989 Director : Lynne Margulies , Joe Orr Writer : Lynne Margulies , Joe Orr IMDb : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0173920/ Genre : Comedy, Wrestling Synopsis: Wrestling documentry about comedian Andy Kauffman's break into professional wrestling. Mainly focuses on his feud with Memphis wrestling legend, Jerry "The King" Lawler, and features interviews from his "Taxi" co-stars, announcer Lance Russell, and Robin Williams. This DVD is exactly what the synopsis here says it is. It was not originally intended to be anything but live appearances by Andy Kaufman at Memphis Wrestling shows. Five years after Kaufman's death, this 60-minute documentary was released with added "interviews" with Tony Danza, Robin Williams, and a few others talking about Kaufman's obsession with professional wrestling and his appearances at this time. It's hard to really review I'm From Hollywood as a film. Largely what
