Basements, Boys, Business, and Blooms (Truly Grateful Series)

I haven't written a "grateful" post for a while.  I think I'm overdue.   First of all, last weekend, the tornado siren went off in my town.  My husband was out of town, but the rest of us that were here (me, my two sons, two of their friends, and Max the dog) all made the dash for the basement.  When the siren goes off, that means a tornado has been sighted.   It is not something to ignore or make light of.  Fortunately for us, the tornado didn't touch down in our area, skirting around us to the east.  Unfortunately for others, it did touch down elsewhere.  As a matter of fact, according to the news the next day, five tornadoes touched down in our little corner of the state of Ohio and in Michigan that night, and five people lost their lives.   Much damage was left behind as well. One of the tornadoes tore a path through a high school .  Graduation ceremonies for seniors were to have been held there the next day.  My younger son h...

Yes It Will!

I'm feeling good today.  This song is playing in my head, so I thought I'd share it with you.  Have a good weekend, everybody.

Boston Boys Visit, Sing Like Nobody's Business, and Play My Piano! ---Truly Grateful Series

The Roxbury Latin Latonics, or more simply called, The Latonics, performed a magnificent concert at my church last night.  The Latonics is a group of high school boys from the private all boys school, the  Roxbury Latin School , located in the southwestern part of the city of Boston in West Roxbury.  They perform sophisticated and challenging a cappella music.  Their concerts feature folk songs, spirituals, show tunes, and popular favorites.   The boys are on tour right now during their spring break from school.  Our town was very fortunate to be included as a stop on their tour because of family ties between the Glee Club's director and a member of our church. My son, his girlfriend, and I thoroughly enjoyed the concert they gave at our church.  Following the concert, the boys were housed overnight by various church members.  We were fortunate enough to be one of the families who were hosting the boys.  Two of these polite, well-mannered, ta...

Seven Days of Solitude?

Occasionally, I like to visit the website,  Creative Writing Prompts , which has  346 numbered writing prompts.  At the site you can point your cursor at a random number and then write about whatever the prompt brings to your mind, or browse through the numbers until you find one that you particularly like.  For this post, I randomly chose prompt #339 which is, "Write about 5 things you would do to entertain yourself if you did not see a soul for 7 days." My first reaction to this prompt was to laugh and think, "Only five?" because I can easily amuse myself if I am left alone.  My problem would NOT be in finding things to entertain myself, it would be in limiting my choices and narrowing it down to just five.  I am, for the most part, a lone wolf, in the sense that quite often I prefer solitude and enjoy working alone.  I am much better able to focus on what is at hand and feel more creative without the distraction of others around.  This is not t...

First time. First time today!

I went for a walk in the park tonight.  It was actually still light out for a while yet after I got home from work at the library, long enough that I could go for a walk and get home before sunset.  That is always a good sign to me when daylight hours start lasting a little longer.   My family said they didn't mind waiting for their dinner if I wanted to walk first before getting the meal started, so I took the opportunity to go.  I haven't been walking outside much at all for two or maybe three months.  It has just been too cold for me.  It was about thirty degrees or so tonight so I decided to give it a try.  It wasn't too bad, but it would have been better for me if  I had only walked for about thirty minutes instead of the forty-five minutes that I took.  My fingers and toes were pretty numb by the time I got back home. It was a pleasant walk even if it was cold.  It was quiet and peaceful.  I saw one person walking a dog, ...

Sharing a Bit of Sunday Joy

Image
Checking my morning glories every day in search of new blooms gives me joy. This morning, I found a very pale and delicate blue (almost white) flower. Then I saw another bloom which made me smile. Apparently a seed escaped my flower box and ended down in the rocks on the ground. There, against the odds, all by itself, was growing this brave little morning glory. That gave me a laugh and gave me a lift. * * * * * This song holds a special spot in my heart and somehow seems an appropriate one to post with my morning glories above. It is one I vividly remember singing in church as a little girl. It is definitely a song that gives me joy.

Dearly Beloved, We Are Gathered Here Today!!

Now THIS is the way to celebrate a wedding! This left me feeling their joy and sharing it, and like most weddings, it brought tears to my eyes. Seriously, it did. Yes, I know I'm a little strange. Thanks to Reenie for sending me this in an email. I LOVED it!!
