Dance As If No One Is Watching, But...

remember, you're not as alone as you think you are.  Watch these folks who were caught on surveillance cameras right when the music "moved" them. Don't miss the  1:20 mark on this first one.  It's my favorite part. In this next one, I like how in the middle he stops to take a look into the cooler, but then he's right back at it! Finally, kids are the best dancers, in my opinion, because they really do dance like they mean it and as if they don't care who might be watching.

Dona Nobis Pacem

Image
"Dona Nobis Pacem" - Latin for "Grant Us Peace" Today I am participating in Blogblast for Peace. November 5, 2009 Bloggers from all across the globe will blog for peace. We will speak with one voice. One subject. One day. When I think of peace, two things immediately come to my mind. One is the song in the video below, "Let There Be Peace On Earth (And Let It Begin With Me)." I think the only way we can create peace in our world is to first find peace within ourselves. That is why I decided to post this song for today. I believe that is the message that it shares. This song has been sung by many different voices, but this A Capella version sung by the PS22 Children's Chorus that I came across was the one that really captured my heart with its simplicity and beauty and feeling. I hope you enjoy listening to the wisdom of this song as sung by these sweet, innocent voices. The lyrics are below the video if you would like to follow along. Let there ...

A Sunday Concert

Image
This past Sunday I traveled to Toledo, Ohio to the Peristyle Theater of the Toledo Museum of Art to hear my younger son play the upright bass as part of the Toledo Youth Sinfonietta. It was an exciting day. In the photo above is the program booklet which has MY son's name in it. ( Yes, I'm boasting and grinning. Thank you for reading this and kindly indulging a mother's pride. ) This is what the stage looked like before the musicians came out on it. Click on this link: Peristyle Theater , to see a view of the inside of the theater from the rear of the auditorium taken by a photographer who obviously knows what he is doing. It is a spectacular place. The members of the Sinfonietta made sure their instruments were tuned and spent some time warming up before the concert started. My son was second chair upright bass. He is the one standing second from the right with the glasses and red hair in the photos below . The concert is about to start. I made videos of the song...

Forgive Me For Beaming, But...

Image
I hope you all will forgive me for beaming with pride, but I wanted to share with you some of the music I heard this past Sunday. My younger son played his upright bass in the local high school orchestra concert that day, and I was in attendance. His girlfriend, also in the orchestra, played the violin. They were in their formal wear for the performance as you can see. I made videos of three of the four songs they played during the concert. My son is in the back on the right hand side of the stage playing the upright bass. You can see just the top of his head occasionally above one of the music stands. His girlfriend is seated, playing the violin, just to the left of the director in the middle of the stage if you want to watch for her when I turn the camera over in that direction. The quality of these videos, taken with our inexpensive camera by me---the one with NO camera skills, is poor at best. I think I managed, unknowingly, to cut off the beginning of one of these songs a...

Feathered Hats, Cream Puffs, and Lederhosen

Image
Because my husband won tickets to the German American Festival over the radio, we traveled to Oregon, Ohio yesterday afternoon. Parking for the festival was in a large field. We have had so much rain of late, that the field was quite muddy in places. We had to walk a short way across the field to get to the festival. This photo below was taken as we were walking through the field where the cars were parked. Ahead you can see a woman dressed in a traditional German costume. At the entrance to the festival was a giant inflated beer bottle. It seemed like a good place for a photo, so my husband took a picture of me standing next to it. It was very windy yesterday and my hair was whipping around my face all a whirl. It was driving me crazy. Because I have naturally curly hair, it easily becomes unruly in windy weather or when humidity levels are high, both of which we had here yesterday. (When I was a little girl, my mother often told me that I have hair like the wild women of...

Music Monday---How Sweet It Is by James Taylor

Image
Sweet. Very sweet, indeed! Happy Monday to you. How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) sung by James Taylor (lyrics) How sweet it is to be loved by you How sweet it is to be loved by you I needed the shelter of someone's arms and there you were I needed someone to understand my ups and downs and there you were With sweet love and devotion Deeply touching my emotion I want to stop and thank you baby I just want to stop and thank you baby How sweet it is to be loved by you How sweet it is to be loved by you I close my eyes at night Wondering where would I be without you in my life Everything I did was just a bore Everywhere I went it seems I'd been there before But you brighten up for me all of my days With a love so sweet in so many ways I want to stop and thank you baby I just want to stop and thank you baby How sweet it is to be loved by you How sweet it is to be loved by you You were better for me than I was for myself For me, there's you and there ain't nobody else I...

Half a Century!!!

Image
As of today, I am officially older than dirt. (Well, I am according to my sons, anyway!) Since I can't do anything about getting older, I might as well dance. And, since Paul McCartney shares the day with me and is celebrating today too, I think I'll go on over to his place and dance tonight.

You Can Dance If You Want To---But Please Don't!

Most of the time I like to encourage people to dance. There are exceptions to every rule, of course. Here are a few of those exceptions.

I Hope You Dance

I love this song. Never fear those mountains in the distance.

Listen To The Falling Rain--Truly Grateful Series

I woke up to the sound of rain hitting the window this morning. It was relaxing and peaceful. It has stopped for now, but it has done two wonderful things. It has washed the air giving it a fresh, spring smell, and it has turned the grass a rich shade of green. WOO HOO!! It's not brown anymore! It's turning a more beautiful color of green with each passing day. In celebration of the rain, the first thing I am going to do is post some of my favorite songs about rain. "Listen To the Falling Rain"---Jose Feliciano "Rhythm of the Falling Rain"---The Cascades "It's Raining Again"---Supertramp Of course, I would be remiss to not include this final song. This song brings me to the second thing I'm going to do in celebration of the rain today---DANCE! "I'm Singin' in the Rain" with Gene Kelly. I hope whatever the weather you are having that you find a reason to dance today. Lord, for rain and the music that celebrates it, ...

Music Monday---Let's Dance!

Image
Let's dance!---Let's sway under the moonlight, this serious moonlight. "Let's Dance" sung by David Bowie Let's dance. Put on your red shoes and dance the blues Let's dance to the song they're playin' on the radio Let's sway while color lights up your face Let's sway sway through the crowd to an empty space If you say run, I'll run with you If you say hide, we'll hide Because my love for you Would break my heart in two If you should fall Into my arms And tremble like a flower Let's dance for fear your grace should fall Let's dance for fear tonight is all Let's sway, you could look into my eyes Let's sway under the moonlight, this serious moonlight If you say run, I'll run with you If you say hide, we'll hide Because my love for you Would break my heart in two If you should fall Into my arms And tremble like a flower Let's dance, put on your red shoes and dance the blues Let's dance to the song they...

Music Monday---Boat On The River

Image
Although I don't swim very well and don't like being in water that is over my head, I find being near bodies of water to be relaxing. Whether it is a small stream, a river, a lake, or an ocean, the sights, sounds, and rhythms of water strike me as being very peaceful. I think that is just one of the reasons I have always liked this song. Boat On The River --lyrics (sung by Styx) Take me back to my boat on the river I need to go down, I need to come down Take me back to my boat on the river And I won't cry out any more Time stands still as I gaze in her waters She eases me down, touching me gently With the waters that flow past my boat on the river So I don't cry out anymore Oh the river is wide The river it touches my life like the waves on the sand And all roads lead to tranquility base Where the frown on my face disappears Take me down to my boat on the river And I won't cry out anymore Oh the river is deep The river it touches my life like the waves on the sand...
