All I Want Is Loving You and Music, Music, Music

Image
I've had a lovely music filled day.  The church orchestra played for our service this morning.  Thank the heavens above it went much, much better than the last time they played.  They played a medley of Christmas hymns that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Both my husband and my younger son were a part of the church orchestra this morning.  My husband played the electric bass and my son played the upright bass.  The next  pictures are of the orchestra and the pulpit at my church.    This next photo is of the side of the church where you can see some of the stained glass windows. After the service, I took a couple of pictures of the front of the sanctuary.  I think our church is beautiful all the time, but it looked especially pretty and festive today with the Christmas trees there. The Christmas trees were decorated with white lights, sprigs of red berries, and red cardinal birds.   This is a shot of the back of the church where there is mo...

Making Joyful Noises

Today was a day of making joyful noises of all sorts. This morning, my husband went to church early to practice with the church orchestra. The church orchestra was to play for this morning's service. He plays the bass guitar with them when he is needed. He came back when practice was over, and I asked him how it went. He just shook his head and said, "Not good." I didn't think too much of it. I assumed that someone must have hit a wrong note here or there, but I didn't question him about it otherwise. I was sure everything would be fine. So the church orchestra played for the 10:30 service. They played three songs. The first two songs went fine. They played them very well, as a matter of fact. I thought, "Well, whatever happened at the earlier practice that caused a problem, it must have been ironed out before the service." Then...they played their third song. The third song they played was "How Great Thou Art," Well, it was supposed ...

Smiley Sunday---Mission Trip Plans

Image
3 Nails 2 Boards 1 Mission My younger son who is 14 (soon to be 15) years old, spent most of yesterday at a workshop where he learned how to put up drywall. He did that because a week from today, he will be traveling to a place called Pass Christian, Mississippi. Pass Christian, Mississippi is marked with a pink balloon with the letter "A" on it on the map below. The location of our home in Ohio is marked with a red star. He is going to Mississippi with his youth group from church on a mission trip there. They are going to an area that was hit by hurricane Katrina in 2005 where homes are still, after all this time, in need of repair from damage done by that storm. He and the others he is going with will be spending an entire week, their spring break time off from school, to volunteer their services to those in need there as part of the hurricane relief team. He is wearing the team T-shirt that was provided to him and the others in his group. This morning in chu...

Lawn Chairs By the Curb

Image
When there is a parade in my town in the summertime, the folks here will set up their lawn chairs at the curbs along the streets of the parade route very early in the day, hours before time for the parade to pass by. This saves them a good spot for viewing the parade. They don't want to miss it. No, nobody steals the lawn chairs or moves them out of the way. That is just the way it is here. I live in a small town where pretty much everyone knows everyone else. The chairs just sit there saving a place for those who are coming. For those who don't plan ahead, they will have to sit or stand behind those lawn chairs to see the parade and perhaps not have quite as good of a view. I was reminded of summertime parades in my town by the sermon presented by the minister of my church this morning. He was talking about the story of Zacchaeus. This is the Bible passage that it was based upon. Luke 19: 1-10 Zacchaeus the Tax Collector 1 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through...
