31 and Counting...

Image
I met this handsome guy 31 years ago today.  We met at college at a party, introduced by a mutual friend.  Shortly after we met, we realized that we also shared a class that quarter.   "Folklore as Popular Culture"  was the name of the class and our instructor's name was Ralph.  I don't remember learning a whole lot in that class, at least nothing that was very useful, but it did turn out to be a lot of fun taking it because of the fact that we were in it together. We had our first date the next week after meeting at that party.  We went to see the Beatles cartoon movie, "Yellow Submarine," that was showing on old movies night at the campus theater.  We had both seen the movie many years earlier, but it was fun to see it again.  And the rest, as they say, is history.  We were married five years later and have been married ever since, of course.  We will celebrate 26 years of marriage this summer. So many of our friends and family me...

Just a Little Reminder...

Have you ever left a little note or message for someone to find to remind them that you are thinking of them or care for them?  Or perhaps someone has left such a reminder for you.  It's a good idea, I think, to let people know that you love them.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Image
My husband and sons (in cahoots with young son's girlfriend who works part time at her aunt's local flower shop) surprised me with this lovely bouquet of roses for Valentine's Day yesterday.   I baked brownies and cut them into heart shapes for all my fellows (and for my youngest fellow's girl too) for dessert for a special early Valentine's dinner we had last night.  We celebrated a little early because my older son was home just for the weekend and must go back to his college dorm today. I am grateful to be loved and to have others to love . Happy Valentine's Day!

Young Love

My fifteen year old son asked me if I would take him to the flower shop on Saturday. He wanted to get a single white rose for his girlfriend. They have been dating for sixteen months now, and they were celebrating the anniversary of when they met. I said, "So you two have been together for one and one third years now, huh?" "Yeah," he said and grinned. Well...gee...I'm just not ready for this. What's a mother to do, though, in the face of such open, unabashedly giddy love and devotion. I took him to the flower shop, of course. Later that day when his girlfriend came over, she brought with her a miniature pumpkin and two miniature gourds as an "anniversary" gift to him. You would have thought she handed him a million dollars from the smile on his face. A flower, a pumpkin, and some gourds---just small tokens, but they are tokens of young love. As a result of this exchange between my son and his girlfriend, I have the song, "Young Love"...

First Morning Glory

Image
My husband left very early Monday morning for his annual three day golfing trip with several of his friends. They go to a different golf course every summer at the end of July. This year they are visiting a golf course in Michigan. Luckily for me, though, he left the camera behind for this trip. He will be too busy golfing to have time to take any pictures. That made it possible for me to take this picture of the first bloom on my morning glories which appeared today . (The half eaten leaf below the bloom is compliments of my dog, Max, who has been chewing on them whenever he goes past.) * * * * * Sweet Morning Delight I'm just a morning glory, wanting to wrap you in vine hugs, wanting to hold you close to me, wanting to hold you tight. Whispering my love for you, through lips of soft pink petals, wearing my hearts on my leaves for you, sharing with you, sweet morning delight.

Between Here and There

Gabcast! Dancing With Daisy #41 - Between Here and There Click the play button above to hear me read this poem. Between Here and There They got off on the wrong foot Pushing buttons, yanking chains Grabbing attention, claiming ground Measuring losses, comparing gains He stroked his beard She ran her fingers through her hair Not caring about the other Because the distance was so great Between here and there But thoughts of him filled her fantasies With each action, an opposite and equal reaction He, very much impressed by her Between them, a mutual magnetic attraction He stroked his beard She ran her fingers through her hair But the distance was overwhelming Between here and there They didn't always agree They made each other think They began sharing songs, poems, dreams Much laughter, and once in a while, a wink He stroked his beard She ran her fingers through her hair Was it really, really THAT far? Between here and there? She imagined how things might be If they weren...
