Sharing a Bit of Sunday Joy

Image
Checking my morning glories every day in search of new blooms gives me joy. This morning, I found a very pale and delicate blue (almost white) flower. Then I saw another bloom which made me smile. Apparently a seed escaped my flower box and ended down in the rocks on the ground. There, against the odds, all by itself, was growing this brave little morning glory. That gave me a laugh and gave me a lift. * * * * * This song holds a special spot in my heart and somehow seems an appropriate one to post with my morning glories above. It is one I vividly remember singing in church as a little girl. It is definitely a song that gives me joy.

First Morning Glory

Image
My husband left very early Monday morning for his annual three day golfing trip with several of his friends. They go to a different golf course every summer at the end of July. This year they are visiting a golf course in Michigan. Luckily for me, though, he left the camera behind for this trip. He will be too busy golfing to have time to take any pictures. That made it possible for me to take this picture of the first bloom on my morning glories which appeared today . (The half eaten leaf below the bloom is compliments of my dog, Max, who has been chewing on them whenever he goes past.) * * * * * Sweet Morning Delight I'm just a morning glory, wanting to wrap you in vine hugs, wanting to hold you close to me, wanting to hold you tight. Whispering my love for you, through lips of soft pink petals, wearing my hearts on my leaves for you, sharing with you, sweet morning delight.

Bits and Pieces

When it is closing time at the library, part of my job is to walk all around the library and make sure that everyone is out of the building before we leave to go home. Included in that sweep of the building, we are to check the restrooms, both the men's and the women's, to make sure they are empty. When I check the restrooms, I always knock on the door first before entering. Rarely is there anyone in there, but we are still to check for stowaways. Not too long ago, I knocked on the men's room door and waited for an answer. There was no answer, so I opened the door and went on in. Unfortunately, there was a gentleman standing at the urinal when I entered. OOOOPS! I don't know why he didn't speak up when I knocked! So this week, I was making the rounds as usual. I knocked on the men's room door and waited for an answer. There was no answer, so I cautiously opened the door. Then I heard a sort of yelp and somebody yelled "HEY!" However, the yel...

Weekend Photo Wrap-Up

Image
I meant to post these photos on Sunday, but I was having some computer issues then, so I'm doing it now. First are a couple of photos from Friday night. Our town was having the annual street carnival known as the Jubilee. For a week our downtown square is transformed to a festival. We walked around to see it, but it looked pretty much as it does every year. Lots of rides, noise, music, bright lights, fattening foods, and fun. And some sparkly things too! I'm not sure what these are---something that was for sale there. They looked like they might be some sort of headgear for a little girl to don so she can dream of being a princess. The sparkly colors caught my eye, so I took a picture. If you'd like to see the photos I took of last year's Jubilee, please click here . * * * * On Saturday, we traveled to Bowling Green State University to attend the string camp concerts that my son was performing in and to bring him home from camp. It was rather dark in the a...

This Means WAR!!

Dear Mr. Squirrel, I have been more than patient, I think. I was willing to share my daisies because I still had some left, and I am generally one to live and let live. I realize squirrels have to eat too. However, enough is enough. Don't try to deny it. I know you are guilty. I have seen you several times. You glance around nonchalantly thinking no one is looking. Then you sneak into the daisies and pull down the stems one by one with your little tree-rat paws and chew the flowers off of the tops: first the white petals one by one, and then the fluffy yellow center. You think I don't see you, but you are in clear view of my kitchen window. You sir, are a no-good, low-down, thieving rodent. Today I managed to get photographic evidence of you caught red-handed (red-pawed?) in my daisy patch. I know, I know, it is not a very clear picture because you are a coward and you high tailed it up the maple tree as soon as you saw me coming with my camera. But if you take a look ...

Sowing Glory

Image
I planted morning glory seeds in the pots on my front porch yesterday. The day before, I had to pull out all the little maple tree seedlings that were growing in the pots and remove any of the winged seeds that were lying on top so that they don't sprout later. That bit of green in the pot below is a sprouted maple seed that still has the brown "wing" attached to it. Before the seed there comes the thought of bloom. - E. B. White After cleaning out the debris and maple seeds, I added fresh potting soil to the top of the planters. Now seeds are just dimes to the man in the store And the dimes are the things that he needs, And I've been to buy them in seasons before But have thought of them merely as seeds; But it flashed through my mind as I took them this time, "You purchased a miracle here for a dime." - Edgar A. Guest, A Package of Seeds I bought several different colors and types of morning glory seeds hoping a variety of them will grow. One of th...

Morning Glory Skeletons

Gabcast! Dancing With Daisy #48 - Morning Glory Skeletons Click the play button above to hear me read this poem. Morning Glory Skeletons Morning Glory skeletons hang from the black porch rails in the white snow. Seed pod skulls and thin vine bones cling to the bars of their winter prison. Next summer , they will find their colors and reach again for the sun, but for now, their heads droop and their vines shiver in the cold wind.
