Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the Circle of Life.

No 319 - The Lion King Directors - Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff Man! I LOVE The Lion King! I was even willing to sit through the longest most OTT DVD menu with an annoying CGI Zazu to watch the film. So long that I can't find a YouTube video of the menu in its entirety.... but you can have a bit of the pre -film ordeal I sat through. That's dedication. So, the special edition DVD has been spruced up a little bit so we get a much sharper, crisper looking film, and that is OK with me, it just makes it a joy to watch. From the opening African chanting to the final Circle of Life.... this film makes me happy. So lets talk about the highlights, and of course the guilty admission that I do really like some Elton John songs - specially when blended in with the African tribal singing . Firstly this film has a star studded cast... and somehow, I had never realised that Matthew Broderick plays Simba ! Gosh. But look at all these others: What's great about this cast is that the...

Larry, we're not electing the fucking Pope here. Just tell me who won.

No 389 - Election Director - Alexander Payne It must be hard to be Christopher Mintz - Plasse . It will probably be a very very long time before he out lives McLovin '. I mean, even Matthew Vaughn admits that Red Mist will fall to the Superbad shadow. The reason I begin like this is because of Matthew Broderick. Election begins with Broderick in the shower and I immediately thought of one thing, one character . I don't think it helps that Broderick is one of those people that ages very well and still looks really quite young.... However, in this film Broderick plays Jim McAllister , a teacher who sets a vendetta against one of his students. The whole film is told as a flashback, with voice overs indicating that something bad will happen to him. So as you watch the events unfold you end up waiting for it all to go tits up. The student in question is Tracey Flick, she had an affair with a teacher (one of McAllister's friends) and subsequently got him fired. For that reaso...

Why should he get to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants? Why should everything work out for him? What makes him so goddamn special?

No 88 - Ferris Bueller's Day Off Director - John Hughes I have been proved wrong. Toy Story was not my hundredth blog. Don't Look Now was.... I have been erroneous. I apologise. This weekend I have enjoyed the delights of the London Film Festival and have been fortunate to see three fantastic films: The Road - bleak, harrowing and full of hope. Fantastic Mr Fox - Gorgeous anarchic excellence. Cold Souls - quirky and slow burn and lovely. However none of them are on the list (though the next time they do one, The Road should be there) so I won't dwell on it. This morning, well... this afternoon... I dragged my broken hungover body off to watch films and watched this genius snapshot of John Hughes brilliance. This film is brilliant because of the bizarre presentation, actively breaking the fourth wall as Ferris discusses his thoughts directly to the camera. Plans on how best to skip school, his thoughts on Cameron, his best friend. His worries about new school. Rather t...
