You're There When I Need You, You're There When I Need

It's time for some dancing music.  I heard this playing in the grocery store tonight.  It took me back 30 years in a blink of an eye.  I still love it after all this time .   I'm there on the dance floor.... Hope you all have a good weekend!

Workin' For a Livin'

I have some great news!  My college son has found a job for this summer.  He is going to be working at a group home facility for troubled youth.  It will be a part time job, but he can choose the hours he would like to work and the hourly pay rate is pretty good.   He is excited about having this job for several reasons.  With a double major in psychology and sociology and a career goal of being a youth counselor, he will be working in his chosen field.  It is quite possible that he will be able to get some independent study credit with his college in conjunction with having this job.  Also, because he is only twenty years old, he can work only part time at the facility this summer.  However, if things go well for him there, the man who interviewed him told him that it will almost certainly guarantee him a full time position there next summer when he will be twenty-one. There is the additional possibility of it being an internship position.  ...

Music Monday ---Train

Image
My younger son was home sick from school part of last week with the flu.  While he was here sacked out on the couch with a fever and chills, and I was taking his temperature and pushing Tylenol and orange juice at him while trying not to get sick myself, he had VH-1 playing on the television.   The video for the song, "Hey, Soul Sister" by Train came on.  I like it.  It is upbeat and catchy.  That, combined with lyrics that are fun and at times a bit quirky, made it stick in my head.   My son is feeling better and is back to school today.  This seems like a good song to get me moving on a Monday morning.  You can't see me (that's probably a good thing!), but I'm dancing around the living room and singing, "You're the only one I'm dreaming of.  You see, I can be myself now finally, in fact there's nothing I can't be..." Still singing here, "I don't want to miss a single thing you do, tonight."     Happy Monday to you! Come ...

Music Monday---Knock Knock

This song is sung by Lenka. She is an Australian actress and singer-songwriter perhaps best known for her song, The Show , which I also enjoy. I like her voice. The title of this one is "Knock Knock," but my favorite line in this song is "Nothing works like you." Come join Music Monday and share your songs with us. Music Monday--I'm In the Mood For Love

Image
"I'm In the Mood For Love" sung by Bryan Ferry. I'm In The Mood For Love (lyrics) I'm in the mood for love Simply because you're near me Funny, but when you're near me I'm in the mood for love Heaven is in your eyes Bright as the stars we're under Oh, is it any wonder? I'm in the mood for love Why stop to think of whether This little dream might fade? Let's put our hearts together Now we are one, I'm not afraid If there's a cloud above If it should rain, we'll let it But for tonight forget it I'm in the mood for love Why stop to think of whether This little dream might fade? Let's put our hearts together Now we are one, I'm not afraid If there's a cloud above If it should rain, we'll let it But, for tonight, forget it I'm in the mood for love Come join Music Monday and share your songs with us. String Quintet Debut

Image
You may remember that a while back my fifteen-year-old son was hoping to form a string quintet along with his girlfriend and some of their friends. That quintet has been formed, and they have been practicing the last few weeks. This morning, they had their debut performance when they played two pieces for our church service. My son is the one standing and playing the upright bass, and his girlfriend (although not much of her is visible) is playing the viola and is sitting to the left of him. I think they did a great job, and I am quite proud of them. The first song they performed was "Shepherd's Dance" by Schubert. The second song they played was "You Raise Me Up." The music for this piece was written by Rolf Lovland and the lyrics were written by Brendan Graham.
