With the upcoming new season of Gossip Girl, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick have been busy with their careers and personal lives. Blake Lively who plays Serena van der Woodsen celebrated her 22nd birthday at the InStyle party. She sported a glamorous Kate Moss dress from Topshop. On the other hand, Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf)and Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass)is on the cover of Elle Korea's September 2009 Issue. Lotte Delima-Edwards' Japan in My Mind Collection

When I watched the local news 2 days ago, I was surprised to know that aside from Monique Lhuillier there is another Filipina who's making a big name in the international fashion industry. Lotte Delima-Edwards, is also a Cebuana designer that is currently based in Singapore. Last July 25, she presented her “Japan in My Mind” collection at the Plantation Bay, Cebu. The collection was inspired by the geisha’s feminine sensuality and features flowing dresses and inricate beadwork consisting of mother of pearls and coconut beads. The designer revealed that all her pieces are made from Philippine materials. Here's a photo taken after the jump. Again, I am proud to be a Filipino!

Michelle Obama's Inaugural Dress on New York Exhibit

Just like other first ladies, Michelle Obama became a part of the popular culture and in every public appearance all eyes were set to her. From the campaign period up to now, her fashion choices were being featured in the news, magazines and even websites, She was praised by fashion critics for her classic and confident look. In fact, Mrs. Obama was always included in top 10 best-dressed lists. She became a certified fashion icon and a trend setter like Jacqueling Kennedy. In her honor, the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) will display her Inaugural Day outfit as part of "Isabel Toledo: Fashion from the Inside Out" exhibit. The gold sheath dress and its matching overcoat can be viewed by public from June 17 to September 6, 2009. Michelle Obama's Inauguration Ball gown by Jason Wu will also be at the Smithsonian.

As you would notice, the fashion trends nowadays are just reincarnation of the fashion styles before we were born. They are the improved versions designed by those who have gone before us. The fashion styles that I will present in a series are ageless fashion styles because they still exist through the test of time. 1930: Little Black Dress (LBD) The little black dress was first seen in May 1926 issue of Vogue magazine when Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel drew the design of the dress for the said issue. First, it was called “Chanel’s Ford” because it is compared to the affordable black Ford automobile. “Chanel’s Ford” rocked the fashion world in both positive and negative ways. Chanel made a bold effort in her design by choosing black as the color of the dress. Some people had a bad impression about it because black clothing was linked to clergy, servants, or death. Fashion War: Gothic Fashion of Vogue Italy vs Flair Magazine

Gothic fashion is usually stereotyped as a dark, sometimes morbid, eroticized fashion and style of dress. Typical Gothic fashion includes black dyed hair and black clothes and both male and female goths wear dark eyeliner and dark fingernails. Styles are often inspired from the Elizabethans and Victorians.(Wikipedia) This October, two magazines opted to have a fashion showdown across their pages. Vogue Italy and Flair magazine let every reader decide on whose Gothic fashion is the best. The October issue of Vogue Italia features a sort of a black widow-harlequin look. The models were dressed in see-through black lace with diamond patters, chiffon and long evening gloves. They also used black balloons and grapes as accessories. One can clearly see that they have a sort of retro-modern, avant-garde, Gothic image. On the other hand, Flair magazine had a set of pictures called "Gotica".
