Lunch with a Lizard

Image
Charley the Lizard is my younger son's pet.  He's not very cuddly, and, unfortunately, he's not very bright either.  He is entertaining though.  I made a couple of videos of Charley and his lunch time adventures.  In this first video, Charley discovers that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Poor Charley.  He tried four times to catch the same cricket and missed every time.  Then he went back under his flower pot house to sulk...or so I thought!  Actually, he was incorporating a cunning stealth move into his lunchtime adventure by lying in wait for his prey. CRUNCH!   Mmmm...tasty!!   What do you know, maybe Charley is brighter than I thought he was!   I guess it's true that good things come to those who wait.    (Well...if you consider a cricket for your lunch a GOOD thing.)

Always, Always, Always---Truly Grateful Series

Image
No matter what kind of day I am having, no matter what is going on, if I stop and think for even just a few minutes, I can always think of things for which I am grateful. During the day, throughout the day, I try to make a mental note to myself when I happen upon something that makes me feel gratitude. I wanted to share just a few small moments of gratitude from my day today. * * * * * One of the best moments was when Dan gave me a smile, a nice big broad one. All I did was tell him to have a good afternoon as I was leaving, when I went to visit my Mom at the nursing home today. He gave me a big smile and said very simply, "Thank you." That is the first time I've ever seen him smile. * * * * * Poor Charley the Lizard is shedding his skin again. I am grateful that humans don't shed their skins the way lizards do. This just looks very uncomfortable and itchy to me. Additionally, after these lizards shed their skins, they eat them. That strikes m...

Escapee

Image
Escapee The cricket taunted me from the corner of the living room. I couldn't tell if he was under the couch or under the chair. He stopped his singing whenever I got close. I knew he was there...I just wasn't sure where. I went to the kitchen to get a broom, and from the bathroom, I brought a paper Dixie cup. Then I swept the broom under the couch, chasing him out so I could scoop him up. I hereby give formal notice to all crickets who come to live here, that if you escape from the cricket box, you are considered to be a volunteer. That's right, you're next up as lizard food. Thanks for bravely stepping to the front of the line. Snapped up by the lizard's jaw with a defining CRUNCH , YOU are the next lizard lunch, when it's time to dine.

Mellow Yellow Monday--With a Bit of the Blues

This is Charley, my son's pet gecko lizard. Most of the time, he's a mellow yellow kind of a guy, but here he is today with just a bit of the blues! To see others who are participating in Mellow Yellow Monday, click the butterfly badge below.

Charley Is Shedding--Truly Grateful Series

Image
Charley, my son's pet lizard, is shedding again. Leopard gecko lizards shed their skins every two to five weeks, depending on their rate of growth. They then eat the discarded skin. ( Ewww! ) The first four photos here were taken yesterday. The rest were taken today. You can see he has gotten some large pieces of the skin off, but still there remains some on his head, tail, and feet . He keeps crawling through his drinking water bowl to moisten himself because that makes the skin come off easier. You can see where he has splashed the water out into the sand. He left a piece of the skin hanging on to the edge of his water bowl, I see. ( Ewww !) At this point, he looks a bit like he is wearing a hood over his head and gloves or mittens or socks on his little feet. While I was taking these pictures, he kept rubbing his head against the side of the glass aquarium and against the upside-down flower pot/cave that he likes to sleep under in an attempt to rub some more of the skin of...

We Now Pause For the Dancing Lizards

Image
Some of you may remember Charley my son's pet lizard. Charley was complaining to me the other day that I haven't given him any blog time for quite a while, so I thought I'd post about him today. He is getting BIG !! Don't let anybody try and tell you that you can lose weight on one of those all-protein diets. The only thing Charley eats is crickets, just crickets (all-protein, right?), and he has gained a great deal of weight. When we first got Charley, he slept inside a half of a coconut shell . Now he has gotten so big that we have replaced his coconut shell with a good-sized flower pot with a hole cut out of the side for him to sleep under. This is what Charley looks like today. When I took his picture, Charley wanted to know why I haven't had any dancing lizards on my blog yet. Well, I aim to please, so here you go, Charley, this one is for you.
