Catching Up With You

Image
The last week has been a busy one, but it has been productive for me.  Thanks to all of you for your messages here and by email.  I was feeling a little overwhelmed with my to-do list, and needed to take care of a few things.    Because I hold power of attorney for my Mom and for financial reasons with regards to the laws concerning Medicare/Medicaid and such, I had to pre-plan the arrangements for my mother's funeral expenses.  No, I don't foresee her death as being anytime in the immediate future, but as I said, the arrangements needed to be done.  I needed to drive three hours away to where the funeral home is (close to the cemetery and close to where most of my family on my mother's side lives) in order to do this, so it took most of a day there and back to handle this matter.  As you can imagine, this task wasn't a pleasant one.  It left me feeling emotionally drained, but I am relieved to have gotten it done.  ...

What's Going On?

Image
"What's going on in Daisyland?" you ask.  OK, so you didn't ask, but I'm going to tell you anyway.  Quite a bit has been happening, actually.  I'll see if I can catch you up. My older son got home from college for the summer last night.  This photo is a bit fuzzy, but I liked his smile in it. Along with him came all the stuff he has been accumulating the last two years.  Who would think that a dorm room could hold so much?  Until things get arranged a bit better, we have boxes and miscellaneous things piled in the living room and kitchen.   We're in a rather cluttered, messy state right now because we also have some boxes here of things from my Mom's house.  Her house is being sold at auction on June 5, so that has been on my mind and keeping me busy. Back to my son, he pulled a 3.75 grade average this quarter, and he starts his summer job on Monday.  He will also be taking an online course over the summer and doing a research practicum havin...

Stop and Give This a Little More Thought

Image
Today was my older son's 20th birthday.  That's  him in the picture above when he was about two years old, I think.  He is playing in the back yard with one of his Dad's golf clubs. Right now, he's away at college, so it didn't seem quite right to not see him for his birthday.  Between the three of us here at home, we did email, text, and call him today, though.  HA HA HA!  He will be home for the holiday break this weekend.  So we will see him then. We sent him the card pictured below.  It made me laugh.  Hope he liked it too.  Click on the image to enlarge it if you are squinting at the little letters like me. The inside of the card had a picture of the cat playing happily with the third ball of yarn.    Sometimes the simplest things bring the most joy.  I hope my son found some joy in his special day today.  I know it will bring me joy to have him home for the holiday.  I miss him.  Happy birthday, Kiddo....

Half a Century!!!

Image
As of today, I am officially older than dirt. (Well, I am according to my sons, anyway!) Since I can't do anything about getting older, I might as well dance. And, since Paul McCartney shares the day with me and is celebrating today too, I think I'll go on over to his place and dance tonight.

Weekend Scenes in a Small Town

Image
My younger son had his 15th birthday this past Friday. After our usual celebration with cake and ice cream and gifts, here he is smiling with his girlfriend. I walked past this garage on a walk downtown yesterday. A simple wreath above the door and a chair next to it holding flowers was all it took to catch my eye. The chair and flowers up close. Large planters full of flowers are around our downtown courthouse square. A squirrel has eaten off many of the daisies that I had growing in my flower bed at home---left me with a sea of green stems sticking up with the flower heads eaten off---the little rascal! Luckily, I can still enjoy these that are growing in the containers on the square. These small pink flowers are growing on a bush in my neighbor's yard. Peach colored iris and some pinkish purple flowers growing low to the ground made me smile in the park tonight. I think this is some variety of a peony, but I am not sure. The flowers on this plant were huge. These small white...

Happy Birthday, Ginny!

Image
My friend Ginny with the beautiful smile is celebrating her birthday today. Please take a moment to visit her blog Gingerbreads House and wish her well. She was one of my very first blogging friends, and I always come away with a smile when I visit her blog. Happy Birthday, Ginny! Here's a song worthy of celebrating a birthday. Birthdays make me feel like dancing and make me want to SHOUT!
