Autumn Weekend

Image
The leaves on our trees out front are mostly still all green, but the whirly-gigs are raining down like crazy from the maple trees, so it won't be long until the leaves on it turn yellow. Some of my neighbors have color in their trees.  This one is in the yard behind ours. This one is just a little way down the street from us. And some of my neighbors need to get busy with their rakes and leaf blowers because their leaves are on the ground already. The giant leaves in the park have already fallen too.  I put one on what is left of the stump of a tree that was cut down and also on a park bench to show how big they are. There are a few trees in the park that still have their leaves on and are still pretty though. I was walking at dusk on Saturday night and when I came around this bend in the road in the park, I thought the street light and the yellow leaves in the trees around it made the road seem almost to glow.  When I took a picture there, it looked like the street was ...

Color My World

Image
The last several days here have been absolutely gorgeous.  The sun has been shining, the skies have been blue, and the temperatures have been mild and pleasant.  Although the leaves on our trees and most of the ones on our street are still green, I found a few spots of color around town and in the park to share with you.  These pictures were taken two or three days ago.  Since that time many more trees have started to change. I wondered if maybe the buzzards had already gone farther south, but then saw dozens of them roosting in the pine trees a...

Photo/Poetry Poll--Cast Your Vote, Reader's Choice

Image
I want to share a few photos that I took in the last week or two, but I'd like to ask a favor of my readers.  Take a look at these pictures and then in the comment section, please let me know which one is your favorite and that you'd like to read a poem about.  I was going to write a poem about one of these photos, but couldn't decide which one to write about, so I thought I'd let you decide for me.  Whichever picture gets the most votes, I'll write a poem about it and post it here. 1.  Max, who rules our house, made me laugh this week as he often does.  He pulled and tugged on these two pillows on the couch until he got them just where he wanted them.  Then he climbed up to lay on top of them with his head resting on the arm of the couch.  I think he wore himself out with the effort because he slept like that there for quite a while. 2. I don't know what these are called, but I liked these spiky looking flowers I saw at the park. 3.  This is the ...
