31 and Counting...

I met this handsome guy 31 years ago today.  We met at college at a party, introduced by a mutual friend.  Shortly after we met, we realized that we also shared a class that quarter.   "Folklore as Popular Culture"  was the name of the class and our instructor's name was Ralph.  I don't remember learning a whole lot in that class, at least nothing that was very useful, but it did turn out to be a lot of fun taking it because of the fact that we were in it together. We had our first date the next week after meeting at that party.  We went to see the Beatles cartoon movie, "Yellow Submarine," that was showing on old movies night at the campus theater.  We had both seen the movie many years earlier, but it was fun to see it again.  And the rest, as they say, is history.  We were married five years later and have been married ever since, of course.  We will celebrate 26 years of marriage this summer. So many of our friends and family me...

25 and Counting...

Image
On July 27, 1985, I wore this dress, and this fellow watched me walk down the aisle. Tomorrow is our 25th wedding anniversary. Like most couples who have been married for a long time,  we have had our share of both good and bad days . We have two sons who have filled our lives with much joy. I'm working all day on our anniversary tomorrow, and my husband is out of town until the day after that, so we celebrated our anniversary with a mini-vacation over the 4th of July weekend when we both had three days off.   For our Silver anniversary we went to Silver Lake, Michigan.  The weather was beautiful as was the view.  On the other side of the lake were large sand dunes.  They don't look very big in this photo, but they looked quite big when we were climbing up and down them.  We watched the fireworks while we were there from the balcony of our hotel room.  They shot the fireworks off from the dunes out above the lake. This is my husband sitting on one of t...

Making Joyful Noises

Today was a day of making joyful noises of all sorts. This morning, my husband went to church early to practice with the church orchestra. The church orchestra was to play for this morning's service. He plays the bass guitar with them when he is needed. He came back when practice was over, and I asked him how it went. He just shook his head and said, "Not good." I didn't think too much of it. I assumed that someone must have hit a wrong note here or there, but I didn't question him about it otherwise. I was sure everything would be fine. So the church orchestra played for the 10:30 service. They played three songs. The first two songs went fine. They played them very well, as a matter of fact. I thought, "Well, whatever happened at the earlier practice that caused a problem, it must have been ironed out before the service." Then...they played their third song. The third song they played was "How Great Thou Art," Well, it was supposed ...

When Husbands Buy Groceries

I hate to buy groceries. It just seems like such a chore to me. I would gladly pass the chore on to someone else, but that hasn't worked out very well either. My husband and sons buy way too many impulse items when they do the shopping. Their shopping trips blow the food budget right out of the water. If I send a list with them and tell them to buy only what is on the list, they invariably either buy the wrong size of the item I want, the wrong flavor, the wrong brand, or, they are on their cell phones with me the whole time asking questions about the items on the list in their efforts to buy what I DO want. Well, if I'm going to be spending all that time on the cell phone telling them what to buy, I might as well just go and do the grocery shopping myself. For any woman who has ever sent her husband to the grocery store, the following video is something that will make you laugh. Thank you to Reenie for sending this to me.
