God knows what you've unleashed on the unsuspecting South. It'll be wine, women, and song all the way with Ringo when he gets the taste for it.

No 410 - A Hard Day's Night Director - Richard Lester Well, what a strange little film we have here. Essentially it is 'A Day In The Life Of The Beatles', but it is also a pun-laden surreal adventure - and it is joyously joyously happy. The first thing that strikes me is what an absolute headfuck Beatlemania must have been. The opening scenes in which the boys have to hide from a tsunami of screaming fans may be fake and played for laughs, but isn't too far from what actually happened to them on a day to day basis. Those first few minutes strike up some nice moments of visual comedy but the film really settles when the boys get onto the train. Here we have the introduction of the entourage (Norm and Shake) and of Paul's grandfather - John McCartney - played by the excellent (and excellently named) Wilfrid Brambell - a true icon of comedy. Brilliantly, the characters constantly note how 'very clean' Paul's grandfather is - thus cancelling out the 'd...

Half a Century!!!

As of today, I am officially older than dirt. (Well, I am according to my sons, anyway!) Since I can't do anything about getting older, I might as well dance. And, since Paul McCartney shares the day with me and is celebrating today too, I think I'll go on over to his place and dance tonight.

Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance---Well....Maybe Not

I like Paul McCartney, I do. However, I came across this old video the other day, and it made me laugh. I have to wonder what Sir Paul was thinking when he decided to do this. From the cotton candy pink suit to the sparkly silver shoes to the half man/half woman dancers to the "giant legs in fishnet stockings and high heels" statues to his silly little Charlie Chaplin-like walk/dance steps , this was just a mistake in every way. The title of the song is "Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance." It was made in 1973, so I guess that explains some of it. Yes, Paul, sing. Please sing. However, here's something I rarely say to anyone, but I feel it needs to be said to Paul, "Please you don't 'gotta dance'." Will Blog For Cookies

Image
Just over a week ago, I read about a kind of cookie that is popular in Australia called a Tim Tam at Chris's blog, At Home At Last. I commented on her post saying that I had never heard of them, and they sounded yummy. The next day I received an email from a representative of an advertising marketing company representing Pepperidge Farm who makes Tim Tam cookies. The representative asked me if I would like to sample their cookies with no strings attached. They offered to send me some for free if I was interested. Well, sure! Why not?! So I replied to their email, and then today a package was delivered to my house. Inside was a package of Pepperidge Farm Tim Tam Cookies. How cool is that? So, of course, I had to sample them. They were good!! The cookies have two layers of a light crispy chocolate wafer with a creme chocolate center inside that has been dipped in another chocolate layer on the outside. They were so good in fact that tasting them made me want to go Dance To...
