Went to see New Moon aka Twilight 2

November 18, 2009. Went to see New Moon AKA Twilight 2 (Chris Weitz, 2009). Needless to say I've read the four novels. I'm a teenage girl trapped inside the body of a middleaged man, what can I say? Love the novels, love the movies: half my brain enjoys it all at face value (even though it's corny and sappy and cheezy), the other half delights in a Gender Studies analysis: just try to apply early Mulvey to this! OMG, what is going on? Is this one of those chick pix? How can they get away with so boldly presenting men as sexual spectacle, offered to the FEMALE GAZE (you even get two for the price of one: lean white Brit and buff tan Native American)? All those who complain that it's a piece of chastity club propaganda have not LOOKED: it speaks of nothing but sex.

November 22, 2009. Went to see The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus (Terry Gilliam, 2009). With the late (Aussie) Heath Ledger (RIP), replaced after his demise by (American) Johnny Depp, (English) Jude Law and (Irish) Colin Farrell, no less. With Andrew Garfield who was in Boy A (John Crowley, 2007). Very stimulating. An aesthetic treat. A couple of metaphors overexploited maybe. Possibly too much about the yarn thing, demiurge storyteller, creation bla bla. But it's a Terry Gilliam! Everyone should go see every Terry Gilliam! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Watching TV: TV series: Eureka, Torchwood, great stuff.

Watching DVDs: TV series: Alias. Quite entertaining. Delightful Jennifer Garner.
