Farrah Fawcett too

Thursday, June 25, 2009. Everybody's making such a fuss about Michael Jackson's demise that Farrah Fawcett's gone practically unnoticed. RIP too Farrah. She wasn't the greatest actress, she wasn't the most beautiful one either. But she was extremely likable. Plus, culturally speaking, you have to admit, something was happening, back then in 1976. When that iconic poster sold so well, when you could see it on the bedroom wall of every heterosexual teenage boy in the Western world (strategically placed vis-à-vis the bed, ha ha), some cultural / sexual power was at work. Does it mean that in 1976 an American woman had to be an elaborately ash blonde (as opposed to easier forms of bottle blondes) to be desired by multitudes? A bimbo in a tit-hugging bathing suit with an amazingly artificial smile that must have hurt her zygomatics? Well, yeah. I used to rush home to watch Charlie's Angels, appallingly dubbed, when was it, on Wednesdays, or Thursdays?
