Homesick

A photo that he keeps
transports him to that place
where waves laugh, softly, against the shore.

Morning breeze, from the sea,
leaves a kiss upon his face.

All is quiet....
till the seagull's cry
slices the sky,
screaming, "More! Give me more!"

Fisherman shares his catch,
tossing tidbits in the air
as the birds circle and swoop and dive.

He so misses that place,
so wishes to be there,
where he felt free and safe and alive.

The ocean blue glass slides out,
as far as he can see
till it meets the white pillow clouds of the sky.

A large boulder for a seat--
the best things are free.
He couldn't ask for more,
but still wonders why.
