Save the Words!!
Michelle from the blog, Crow's Feet, has tagged me with an interesting new meme that she created. She pointed me in the direction of a website called Save the Words.
Every year hundreds of words are dropped from the dictionary, to make room for newer words. Save The Words is a website campaigning to save obscure or old words before they vanish from the English language forever. Once you join, you can adopt any of the words at their site. By adopting a word, you also promise to use it.
Michelle challenged me to go to Save the Words and adopt a word, then, to find a way to use it in a sentence or as a theme for a blog post or photograph. I accepted her challenge and clicked over to the Save the Words site to see what I would find.
There were lots of fun and interesting words there, all literally calling out to me saying "Pick me! Pick me!" (Go visit the site, you'll see what fun it is. I heard voices and you will too!) I decided to choose a word randomly the way that Michelle did. I closed my eyes and swirled the mouse around on the page to see what word I landed upon.
I laughed out loud when I saw what the word was.
Stiricide: the falling of icicles, as from the edge of a roof.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!! I swear to you that was the random word that my mouse landed upon. Of course, I adopted it immediately. It was obviously made just for me.
As it so happens, we had some warmer temperatures here today (Hurray, Hurray, HURRAY!). In fact, we had a high of 49 degrees Fahrenheit which caused a glorious, noisy STIRICIDE here in Daisyland.
I was thrilled, of course. Some very large, thick chunks of ice fell down off the roof as you can see by the pictures below. That is my hand and one of our snow shovels in the photos to give you an idea of the size of these chunks of ice.

Although the ice is off the top of our house, we still have plenty of snow hanging around. It will take a while before it all gets melted away. Below are a couple of photos to show how big and ugly and dirty the piles of snow, that are down next to the curb on our street, looked today.

I was quite pleased to have the warmer temperatures arrive here. It brought some welcome relief from the constant cold.
I had so much fun adopting the first word, I decided to adopt another one. This is the second random word I came upon.
Scelidate: having legs.
This one made me smile and seemed chosen just for me as well.
I am grateful to be scelidate. It makes it so much easier to DANCE! And, after today's stiricide, I am definitely "In the Mood" to DANCE!
If you would like to try out this meme and adopt a word, be my guest! Let me know in the comments if you decide to participate, or visit Michelle's site and let her know, so that we can come and visit your Save the Word post too.
