Weekend Weather Views
Saturday, the skies were gray, it was very cold and windy, and it snowed all day. Big fluffy, puffy snowflakes came down, piling up quickly. The wind caused some drifting outside of the city limits. The roads were treacherous, and just walking around on the sidewalks was a slippery, risky adventure.
We, who live here, are used to this though. This is the time of year we automatically allow more time to get anywhere. Everything slows down out of necessity. More time is needed to get windshields scraped off and engines warmed. More time is needed to clear off sidewalks and shovel out driveways. More time is needed to slow down on the roads and exercise more caution. The city workers get busy with the snow plows and salt trucks trying to make the roads safe again.
I thought I'd share some views from out the front door and side door at my house. (Click the photos for a bigger view.)
You can see the big snowflakes falling here against the backdrop of the dark green pine trees.

We woke up this morning to two or three inches of snow on the ground. The snow had stopped falling though, and a glorious sunrise greeted us out the front door.

The gray clouds are breaking up and disappearing. They are much lighter now catching and reflecting the pink from the sunrise.

I am reminded of the song lyric, "And I think it's gonna be all right. Yeah, the worst is over now. The morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball." from the song Red Rubber Ball written by Simon and Garfunkel and performed by The Cyrkle. If you aren't familiar with it, you can click the link on the band's name to hear it.
The clouds are so pretty.

About four hours later, the sun is shining bright and the skies are a beautiful bright blue.

The sun shining on the roof is melting some of the snow there causing it to drip down from the gutters and reform into icicles as it falls.
There are a few small icicles directly above my head on the front porch just outside the front door. If you have bad timing, sometimes as you are going out the door, an icy drop of water will slide off the tip of the icicle and drip right down the back of your neck. That will give you a start! HA! HA! :D
The sun was shining on the icicles on this side making them sparkle.
