Deck the Halls Meme
Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate!! with a marshmallow in it, of course!
Does Santa wrap presents or set them under the tree? He wraps them AND sets them under the tree. (What a silly question! What else would he do with the presents besides set them under the tree? Shoot them out of a cannon? Bury them in the snow? The only exception is that he sometimes will put a small one or two in the stockings that we hang.)
Colored or white lights on the tree? Actually we have one of those fiber optic trees with rotating color filters that lights itself up, so we don't even string lights on the tree.
When do you put your decorations up? Sometime in December. Some years it has been very early in the month and some years it has been very late. Most years we manage to get the decorating done around the 14th or 15th of the month. We got it done this year on the 14th.
What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Homemade rolls hot from the oven with butter and homemade raspberry or strawberry jam on them.
Favorite Holiday memory as a child: When I was growing up, we used to have a plastic church with a light bulb inside it. On the back was a wind-up key for a music box inside. Every year Mom would get that church out at Christmastime and set it on the end table next to the couch. The music box played "Silent Night." We kids loved to wind up the key to make the music play. However, down through the years, the music box developed a creaking noise at the end of each line of the song. It sounded something like this, "Silent night, CREAK, Holy night, CREAK, All is calm, CREAK, All is bright. CREAK." The creaking noise was very annoying. My brother, of course being an adolescent boy, thought it was very funny. He would wind it up over and over again singing along to it and adding his own sound effects for the creak. I don't think Mom has the creaking church anymore, but we still talk about it every Christmas.
When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? Oh come on, now. You're not one of those people who listens to rumors are you? Nothing good can come from gossiping about folks behind their backs. I don't want to hear anything like that about Santa, so just go tell your tales to someone else!
Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? No. Santa comes while we are sleeping on Christmas Eve. How can I open a gift that isn't there yet?
How do you decorate your Christmas tree? We decorate it with silver garland and a wide assortment of mismatched ornaments that we have made and bought and received as gifts and accumulated from who knows where down through the years.
Snow! Love it or Dread it? Dread it. In all honesty, I could go the rest of my life without seeing another snowflake, and I would be perfectly happy with that.
Can you ice skate? No! I don't even like trying to walk on an icy sidewalk.
Do you remember your favorite gift? That's a tough one. I have been given many wonderful gifts down through the years. I really can't think of one that stands out as being "my most favorite."
What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Family members are all home at the same time (well, at least for a little while anyway).
What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Christmas cookies---Santas and trees and wreaths and stars and angels in cut-out shapes which are frosted and then decorated with sprinkles and sparkles and such.
What is your favorite tradition? Going to the local school and/or church music concerts and plays and performances during this season. I just really enjoy these events that are a celebration of Christ's birth.
Which do you prefer, Giving or Receiving? I like them both, but giving is the best when I find what I think is the most absolute perfect gift for someone that I know they will enjoy and be thrilled to have.
What is your favorite Christmas Song? Joy To The World, The Christmas Canon, Silent Night, Away In a Manger, Oh Holy Night, The Peace of Christmas Day, the Hallelujah Chorus, well, I could name several more but since you only asked for one, I will stop. (One thing you need to know about me, sometimes I don't answer questions the way I am supposed to.)
Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? I really don't care much for candy canes. If I am going to eat candy, I would much rather have something chocolate. However, since Spangler Candy Company (which makes a very large number of the candy canes that you see in the stores each year at this time) is in my own little town here, I really don't like to say anything negative about them.
Ever recycled a Christmas present? Yes, I have. That's all I'm saying about that!
